My FIND experience in New Orleans | Personal Photography

If you are into film, you will most definitely stumble upon Jonathan Canlas work, and his Film is Not Dead movement. Yes, I call it a movement, because that is exactly what it is. Through his workshops, his books, and his community he has managed to connect a bunch of people to help each other advance in their art of photography.

I have an honest interest in become the best photographer I can be, and from the wide choice of workshops out there, including the thousands offered online, I chose the FIND Workshop because of the small group, intense learning setting that happens in three days. In those close quarters, you get to really bond with the attendees (all women in this case, and most of them with the most lovely southern accent!), and you are literally learning around the clock. I think that more than learning about film from an honest guy, the two most important things you can get out going to a FIND workshop are: first, the community you will be a part of of; second, the importance of defining who you are and what your voice is as a photographer.

With this said, I don't think I will be a 100% film shooter. I have learned that film has great limitations, such as in low light situations. Steady hands, I don't have. And digital cameras are fabulous in low light. However, I do want to incorporate more film in all my shoots because it's pretty; because I love it; and because I think my clients will love too!

Now check out some images from the only 35 mm girl in the group.

The Land of the Living Skies | Personal Photography

If you google, "The Land of the Living Skies", you will find that, this land is called Saskatchewan, Canada. And up in the farthest most north City, Prince Albert, both my father-in-law and my mother-in-law were born. This past summer we visited this city, and it was a magical trip for both my husband, John, and my kids. John took us to all those places that made up his childhood summer vacations when he was growing up. I don't think I have ever seen him so nostalgic to narrate stories of places and adventures to our kids. I was so happy to had been there to document this trip On FILM for them. It was, also, our kids first time visiting their great-mother, Kay. These pictures, as perfectly imperfect as they are, will be very dear to my family's heart.

Alaska on Film | Travel Photography

This past summer, we had the opportunity the go on an amazing vacation with my husbands family: a Disney Cruise to Alaska. Out of all of the places we visited, Skagway was by far my favorite. A place that only gets a couple of hours of sunlight during the winter, and has a population of 800 people, receives 900,000 visitors during the summer. Having the White Pass Railroad close by,  the place is rich in history. This place was so fascinating to me. Here are some impressions of our stop in Skagway, and some more.

Happy 90th Birthday Grandpa | Personal Photography

Today my Grandpa turns 90 years old; and I so wish I could be there with him. He has been there for me every single important event in my life: every graduation (and I mean from kindergarten to college), my quinceanos, my wedding. We still go back to Panama many times every year, and he is the one person that consistently is there to either pick me up, or drop me off at the airport. I still remember when I was little, how excited I would get when he would wake us up at 5 am to go milk the cows. Even though, I know he will not read this blog, I wanted to share with you how important he is in my life. Feliz Cumpleanos Abuelito Carlos!

Baby Daniel | Newborn Photography

Baby Daniel was welcomed to the world by his two adoring parents and big sister Sophia. Their home was warm and filled with beautiful light, and their photographs were a reflexion of those elements. I am so honored to had been able to walk into their house and document, for a few hours, what it was like to be the parents of a precious baby boy. Baby Daniel, you are SO loved.
